* PEX pipes are actually cross linked polyethylene plumbing pipes which were first made back in 1920s. It was only these past years that PEX is gaining popularity.PEX is creamy white in color. There are also red and blue pipes to designate hot and cold water respectively. The size of outer diameter of PEX is also similar with copper pipes and like CPVC can be used with cold and hot water. Yet compared with other plumbing pipes, PEX pipes have higher heat resistance so they are often used in applications related to water heating systems.

* Polypipes are also used in transporting highly pressurized water to and from residential places. These pipes are placed outside and buried underground to avoid getting frozen. Polypipes are rigid and are solely used just for this purpose.

Metal Pipes

* Copper pipes are commonly used in plumbing systems inside the house. They are costlier than plastic pipes but are more durable and hard wearing. They are corrosion-resistant and can bear high degrees of temperature. There are three sizes of copper pipes: M (has thin walls), L (has medium thickness), K (has the thickest wall).

* Stainless Steel Pipes are more expensive than copper pipes and are used basically in marine settings as they can endure the salty water that can corrode other metal pipes.

* Galvanized Iron pipes are mostly used to carry water to and from the house. The galvanized coating that is gray in color serves as the rust resistant proofing of the pipes. Sizes of galvanized pipes are from 1.3 cm to 5.1 cm.

Do not purchase pipes because they are cheap. Instead choose pipes that are of high quality so you wont have to worry about repairing or replacing them quickly.
